Early Voting Plans: Data Timeline
Early Voting Plans: Data Timeline
Updated over a week ago

We provide users with the ability to make a voting plan directly within Motivote using polling place data provided by CivicEngine, which also encompasses polling place data from the Voting Information Project. From DemocracyWorks, the same data that populates Google searches on election information.

However, our data providers do not make this data available until close to the start of each state's early voting period, which varies from mid-September to late October.

Before this data is available, the user can still make up a plan by looking up their polling place information directly on their state website, then saving it in a provided field. By saving the polling place, this allows Motivote to show the location on a map within our interface and send a reminder the day before the election.

One the user selects their desired early voting date from the calendar of available options, here is what the user sees before polling place data is live within Motivote:

Here is what the user sees once polling place data is live within Motivote:

Note: In some states, election officials do not finalize early voting locations until just before the early voting period, while in others this data is available over a month out. This timing impacts when users are able to make a voting plan, but Motivote will automatically remind voters who select Early Voting as their method if the early voting period has started and they have not yet made a plan.
