Who is Motivote for?

Motivote is a resource that [ORG] is providing for our community members.

  • It’s for anyone who wants a little help getting ready to vote in elections or who wants to help their [friends/classmates/peers] get ready to vote.

  • It’s also for people who like taking part in community activities, engaging in friendly competition, or winning free stuff.

  • You can still use Motivote as an individual resource if you’re not interested in teams and competition.

What can I get if I use Motivote?

Motivote is a resource to help make the voting process easier. The tool will walk you through steps to get ready to vote and send you reminders about things you need to do.

Motivote also offers rewards as a way to say ‘thank you’ for getting ready to vote and positively impacting your community.

What kind of information is on the platform?

Motivote shows you action steps like checking your registration status, making a plan to vote, and reviewing a nonpartisan ballot guide. Earn points for completing them.

It’s branded for [ORG] and has some custom content for us, but Motivote supplies the instructions and tips for getting ready to vote in elections. They have a research team that tracks state-by-state voting rules.

What messages or communications will I get if I sign up?

In addition to the actions you complete on the platform, you'll get occasional reminders via your choice of email or text message. The goal of these reminders is to make sure you’re ready to cast your ballot and don’t miss any important deadlines.

Motivote will not spam you with frequent messages: You’ll get just a couple reminders throughout the entire election cycle, and only if you have incomplete action steps.

For example, Motivote will remind you to check your registration status or request an absentee ballot if the deadline is coming up soon and you haven’t done so.

You'll ONLY get communications that are directly relevant to your voting plan. Motivote won't send you anything about candidates, parties, donations, or petitions.

If you sign up for reminders and later change your mind, just update your preferences on the MyMotivote page.

Couldn’t I just look up information about elections on my own?

Motivote’s goal is to make it easier for you to navigate the voting process so that you don’t need to spend as much time and brain power on it. The reality is, election rules and processes can be confusing. Motivote can break it all down for you and help you follow through — plus you might like the teams, competitions or rewards elements.

If I already feel confident about voting, why use a resource like this?

This is just a little extra help to make sure election deadlines don’t sneak up on you. Even the most organized people sometimes drop the ball. Having an extra reminder never hurts!

Think about all of the events, exams and other things that will happen later this fall as we get closer to Election Day. Signing up is doing a favor to your future self, reducing the stress of last-minute to-do's or not being able to vote because you missed a deadline or faced a scheduling snafu.

Plus, on Motivote, you can also help out the people in your life who are less on-top-of-it than-you. Motivote has peer referral links so you can invite friends who would benefit from more support and reminders.

How does Motivote use my data? What are the privacy policies?

Your privacy is a top priority for Motivote. They do not sell your data to third parties. Organizational partners like [ORG] may be able to see who signs up, their engagement with the resource, and contact information. View privacy policy

In order to provide you helpful info about your next elections, Motivote asks for your residency address. This is because that address determines things like your election schedule, rules to follow, polling place and ballot guide.

You can optionally save your phone number to get SMS reminders, which will help you follow through on voting steps and avoid missing deadlines.

I’m not eligible to vote myself, is there anything on Motivote for me?

Yes. While Motivote is focused on US elections, you can still sign up if you’re not eligible to vote for any reason. Just indicate that you’d like to join as a "Supporter” when signing up. This means you won’t see any election-related actions but can still earn points by inviting friends or completing other types of actions added by [ORG].

Is it trying to get me to vote for a certain candidate or party?

No. Motivote is 100% nonpartisan. The focus is on helping you get ready to vote and learn about civic engagement.

The platform doesn’t promote any candidates or parties, or tell you who to vote for. No Motivote users or administrators have access to your political party or how you vote.

What makes Motivote nonpartisan?

Motivote’s goal is to help people learn about how to participate in election processes and reduce the barriers that keep people from voting. The actions that voters complete on Motivote are focused on the behavior of voting, not who you vote for.

One of the actions you can complete on Motivote is reviewing a nonpartisan ballot guide that lists the candidates running for various positions. While you can save your preferences before casting your ballot, that information is completely private to you. It's not saved on Motivote or shared with any other users or administrators.
