Featuring Motivote in Campus Tech

Understand options for featuring Motivote into existing campus tech platforms.

Updated over a week ago

Intro

The best way to introduce Motivote and make it easy to access is by meeting students where they already are. By embedding Motivote into the tools your community already uses, you'll maximize your engagement and impact.

Use this guide to learn about the services and platforms that Motivote syncs with and understand your options for integrations.

Single-Sign-On (SSO)

Enabling SSO authentication services enables your community members to seamlessly log into Motivote with school credentials (their ".edu" email address).

If students access Motivote from the browser where they access course and activity information, they'll already be logged in.

Setup

Motivote's login system can be integrated with a number of single sign-on authentication services. We currently integrate with SAML2.0 and oAuth 2 equivalents ‘out-of-the-box’ and can usually accomodate others upon request.*

For new SSO integrations, you'll connect our team directly to your IT Department or submit a ticket to initiate the process. Setup is typically a quick process that can be done within a short time period, pending the IT Department's schedule and capacity. We will exchange XML files and then provide authentication instructions to your team.

Benefits

Schools with SSO enabled are seeing our highest levels of participation because it's easiest way for users to get started and stay engaged.

Additional benefits include:

  • Better adoption: removes the 'friction' of creating new accounts

  • Restrictive access: limit Motivote usage to current students, faculty and staff

  • Data integrity: users are identifiable for data-syncing and impact reporting

Other Sign-Up Options

In addition to SSO, you can opt to turn on Google and Facebook Sign-Sign On. There is an option to offer both SSO and other account-creation options, including accessing with a personal email and password. You are not limited to one or the other.

Anthology Engage

If your campus uses Anthology Engage for Student Affairs, this is a great place to feature Motivote — especially if activating student organizations as part of your engagement strategy. Here are some ways to feature Motivote:

  • Global alert: Set up an Alert to feature your dashboard link and initiative description at the top of your Engage home page, a highly visible location to promote traffic. View instructions in Engage →

  • Campus link: Feature your Motivote URL as a campus link so users have quick and easy access to it as soon as they're logged in. View instructions in Engage →

  • Teams setup via API: Automatically generate Motivote 'teams' from registered student organizations in Engage.* Contact us →

GivePulse

If your campus uses GivePulse for volunteering and community engagement, this is a great place to feature Motivote. Here are some ways to feature Motivote:

  • Global Banner: Feature your Motivote URL at top of all of your GivePulse pages. Contact us →

  • Affiliate with Motivote: Motivote-created events automatically share in feed and can be pinned/promoted by your admins. Contact us →

Other Platforms

If your campus uses tech platforms that aren't featured above, you can still feature and promote Motivote using these strategies:

  • Add our Embeddable Widget to any website using a simple iFrame code. Students can look up their next election and check their registration status directly on the website, then automatically redirect to your Motivote portal for additional actions.

  • Create a module in an LMS (ie. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) that contains info about your Motivote program and other election resources that is rolled out to faculty, inviting them to add it to their own course pages.

  • Add a banner or popup to the platform, featuring your Motivote URL and a brief description to encourage students to click.
