Intro
Custom Actions allow your organization to add gamified tasks for users to complete. Use this guide to understand the feature, how they can level up your engagement, and how to design and add them. We also include examples from Motivote partners.
Why Use Custom Actions
All Motivote users see the same core set of Election Actions, based on their registration address. Clients don't edit or adjust these built-in, universal actions.
If you want to display organization or campus-specific content for users, that's where Custom Actions come in. Custom Actions are your chance to take engagement to the next level with gamified tasks shown only to your community.
Use Custom Actions to provide additional opportunities for engagement beyond election readiness and connect your Motivote portal to your broader engagement goals. Select from templates like "upload your image," "share a response" or "take a survey."
They're also a great way to provide inclusive participation opportunities to community members who are not eligible to vote in US elections.
Adding New Custom Actions
Admins can add Custom Actions directly via the Admin Portal or request for our team to add actions for you.

Submit the form again for each action.
Actions will be added within 48 hours of submission.
You'll be notified by email when they are live, with an opportunity to provide edits/change requests.

You can select from the following action types, which become the action's "steps." Actions can contain one step or multiple steps.

Custom Actions can be assigned to:
All users on your platform
Members of specific team(s)
Voters in specific state(s)
Only to non-eligible users
Settings
For each action, control whether it can be completed one time or multiple times. You can also control whether actions can be edited by users once completed.
Data Access
Admins can track action completion metrics and view/export user responses via the Admin Portal. Users can also view their own responses on their MyMotivote page. However, users do not see each others' responses.
